Yet another gold record for Dan Magnusson

Seasick Steves album "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" has sold over 100 000 copies which has gained Steve and his drummer Dan Magnusson and bassist John Paul Jones a gold record. The gold record arrived at Dan's home a couple of days after christmas eve. It will be a nice add to Dans collection of gold och platinum records. Below's a picture of Dan Magnusson with his new gold record.

Seasick Steve drummer Dan Magnusson was honored by the merchants of his hometown, Åmål, in Sweden on sunday november 27th at a ceremony at the square. A couple of years ago he also reciewed the cityäs cultural prize as well as the Blues Fest Award. Below you see a couple of pictures from the event.

Dan the man in Karlstad

Today me and Jeanette went to Karlstad to visit my old friend Kjell at the restaurant Terrassen at Mariebergsskogen. We had a superb meal and a nice chat with Kjell. If you're in Karlstad, Sweden, and wanna get something really good to eat - Terrassen is the place.
Leaving Terrassen we headed for Slagverkskompaniet in Karlstad. The number one drum shop in Scandinavia. Nice place with good service, low prices and everything you can wish for. It's like a Toys'R'us for drummers. You can order online as well as visit the store in Karlstad, Sweden. You'll find their site at www.slagverkskompaniet.se
In a couple of days I'll be back on the road again with Seasick Steve, John Paul Jones and the gang.

Seasick Steve & Papa Dan att Kutens in Sweden

On midsummer this year Seasick Steve and Dan Magnusson played at Kutens Bensin on Fårö in Sweden. Kutens Bensin is a heaven on earth for everyone who's in to american cars and culture. It's impossible to imagine what a fantastic place it is unless you've been there. I'm going back in the future, that's for sure. Below you'll find some pictures from our stay at Kutens.

Papa Dan had almost a week of during the summer tour with Seasick Steve. He made god use of those days, with the vaccum cleaner. It's a shitty job but someone's gotta do it... Right! Now he's back on tour again...

When Dan Magnusson, along with his assistant - Cato aka Fat Bull, were on their way to England for the upcoming gigs with Seasick Steve a lot of flights were cancelled. Swedish television, SVT, made a good story about flying or not, and the reporter got some good comments about the danger of the vulcanic ashes. Whom? You know who... Seasick Steve US tour spring 2011

Earlier this spring me and Seasick Steve made our first US-tour together. Steve, as the american he is, has done this many times before, but this was my first journey to the states, and I was fascinated over the nature, all the nice people, the appreciative audiences and the fine venues we played at.
We started out by driving north on the Pacific Highway. It took some time (days) but it was well worth it. We stayed overnight in some great places like Laguna Beach, Moro Bay, Carmel (hometown of Clint Eastwood), Muir Beach and Mendocino and some more places.
Our first official gig was at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland, Oregon thursday march 31st. It’s a wonderful venue with a lot of history dating back to the autumn of 1914.
Nowadays The Wonder Ballroom is a beautifully restored historic building with a wide variety of performances and events.
The audience was top of the line, as it was on all our gigs.
Our next gig was on monday april 4th at Slim’s in San Francisco. On sunday we sat down on the pavement in Haigh Street and played a couple of songs as people walked by, that was an interresting experience. Boz Scaggs established this place in 1988. Slim’s is a live music club dedicated to providing good food and drinks as well as the finest of American roots music such as blues, r&b, cajun/zydeco, jazz amongst others.
And as I said earlier, the crowd was awsome on all the venues.
The next day we went to San José for a gig at the Blank Club. This is the number one club in San José according to the locals we spoke with. Everyone who is someone has played here, or at least that is what they said. And it’s easy to believe since the club really had that genuine rock’n roll club feeling.
Two days later we had our last gig at this mini tour of the american west coast. In an old warehouse from the 1930’s the Los Angeles artists in music, theater, dance and film has found it’s center stage.
After a good gig with yet another great audience our mini tour was at it’s end. After spending a couple of lazy days on the Californian west coast I boarded the plane for the long flight home.
We had some nice weeks driving up and down the Pacific Highway, playing some gigs and having a lot of laughs, as we always do when we’re on the road. Now it’s back to working at my and Jeanettes coffee shop until june when the summer season kicks off.
